6th and 7th European Conferences on Scientific Diving 2020 and 2021
You are invited to bid to host the 6th and 7th European Conferences on Scientific Diving to be held in 2020 and 2021, respectively The European Conference on Scientific Diving is a combination of the “Research in Shallow Marine and Fresh Water Systems” series with the "International Symposium on Occupational Scientific Diving" series into a single annual meeting. The intention is to provide a major international forum to highlight the scientific outputs that are being achieved in Europe principally through the use of scientific diving as a research tool. The symposium should attract the European leaders in the field of scientific diving, but must also provide a platform to encourage significant participation from Early Stage Researchers. We are requesting bids from institutes, universities or other research organisations who would be interested in hosting this meeting in 2020 and 2021. There is no formal structure to submitting a proposal, but in making a bid, the proposers may wish to include information on:
1. Preferred date (this would normally be in the months of March or April). 2. Location for the meeting. 3. The host institute or group 4. A statement of the financial security of the host (the host would be expected to bear the financial risk of running the symposium; the statement should include what the consequences of making a financial loss would be for the host; conversely, there should also be a statement on how an operational surplus would be handled) 5. Approximate number of participants that could be accommodated in the conference location (a number of up to 100-150 participants should be expected). 6. It is acknowledged that it will probably not be possible to give a price for the Symposium. However, it would be expected that pricing would be kept as low as possible to attract good attendance. Some information should be given on a possible pricing strategy. 7. Any intended themes to be incorporated into the conference. 8. Possible invited speakers? 9. The capability for creating and printing a book of abstracts. 10. Plans for an incorporated poster session(s) 11. The possibility for associated field trips or workshops. 12. Details of accommodations – guide to the range of places available for accommodation with approximate cost bands. 13. Travel guide – how easy is it for people to travel to and from the symposium. 14. Sponsorship potential? 15. Any other details that may be of interest.
Please submit your bids by email to Dr Martin Sayer (email@example.com) by NO LATER than Friday 21st December 2018. All bids will be reviewed by a small oversight committee (listed below) chosen to be representative of the general European scientific diving community including past conveners of previous meetings; that committee will dissolve once the locations for the next two meetings have been chosen and hand over responsibility for organising the meetings to the local organisers.
It is hoped to be able to announce the location of the 2020 and 2021 meetings by 18th January 2019. Please be aware that it is expected that the successful bidders attend the preceding conference and give a brief presentation to that conference about the arrangements for the event the following year. For information, the 2019 conference will be held in Sopot, Poland, 24th-27th April 2019 (www.ecsd5.org).
