HSE SCUBA

An HSE SCUBA certificate permits a diver to dive at work under the Scientific and Archaeological ACoP although other recreational standards are permitted. However, with a HSE SCUBA a diver can also work on other underwater projects that fall outwith the Science and Archaeological Code, such as the Inshore/Inland ACoP. If the diving you are doing as a scientific or archaeological diver is not in support of science or archaeology then it should be conducted under the Inshore/Inland Code with a full HSE-certified team.

This course is HSE-recognised and sets out to cover the full HSE SCUBA syllabus but with some relevance to underwater science and archaeology. At present, this course is only offered to divers with prior diving experience and provides a 2-3 week top up that concentrates on diving operations at work. Training and assessment will be given with full-face masks, voice communications, underwater survey, dive supervision, risk management, recompression chamber operation. The full HSE SCUBA examination will be given at the end of the course and successful candidates will receive the full HSE qualification

Entry requirements:  All participants must hold a CMAS 2* equivalent diving qualification and an in-date HSE Diving at Work medical certificate. Copies of diving qualifications, medical certificates and the last 10 dive logs are required with each application.

The cost per participant is £250 + VAT per week. The duration of the course can vary from 2 to 3 weeks depending on prior experience and ongoing assessment. Participants are responsible for all travel and accommodation requirements and costs. Participants can apply to NFSD for support using the NFSD support application form. Applications to NFSD must be received at least 6 weeks before the start of the workshop.
