SCIENTIFIC/ARCHAEOLOGICAL SUPERVISOR COURSE
(includes oxygen administration if required)

This course covers all the knowledge requirements that are necessary in order to act as a Supervisor on a scientific or archaeological diving operation. Principally the course concentrates on the legal framework that surrounds the position of Dive Supervisor. This leads onto examining risk management and risk assessment for diving operations. Finally, participants are tasked to examine how they would approach managing a diving incident where they are the supervisor for that diving operation. This includes managing an incident of decompression sickness and/or a physical first aid challenge (e.g. burns, breaks, asphyxiation etc.).

Diving Supervisors would be expected to possess a First Aid at Work certificate in addition to oxygen administration. This course can provide an oxygen administration demonstration if required.

Entry requirements:  It is recognised that it is not necessary for scientific and archaeological diving supervisors to be current diving at work certified. Current divers would be expected to present evidence of their diving qualifications and medical certificates when attending the course. Non-diving participants would be expected to present a letter from their institution explaining their requirement for dive supervisor training.

The cost per participant is £50 + VAT for the course. Participants are responsible for all travel and accommodation requirements and costs. Participants can apply to NFSD for support using the NFSD support application form. Applications to NFSD must be received at least 6 weeks before the start of the course.
